A Note About Education From Gen Z

I’ve been doing a fair share of solid reading recently and found myself indulging in books of philosophy and psychology. I think that a valuable lesson that I’ve learned thus far has been that in order for there to be advancement not just in the political realm of America, but rather the world, we as human beings must find a common ground no matter how small it may be and focus our energy in coming to one agreement that can open the doors for others. Becoming well versed not just in your own interests but those of the opposition can only further help your own cause. It is apparent to me through learning about philosophers and leaders such as Pericles, that at the very center of a great deal of issues is a single commonality. A lack of proper education. This has become more and more evident in the realm of todays technological and social media rich world. In a domain where the internet allows for everyone to be an “expert”, absolute facts can be dismissed as nothing more than unfounded discussion. I believe that not as Americans, but as a human race we must value education, discipline, and teaching at a much higher regard.

This may be the “Gen Z” in me or the “know nothing kid” in me as some would describe but I believe that higher forms of education should be free and the general wage of ALL teachers should be increased tenfold.

The process in which a teacher is granted the educational background to teach students should not leave them in crippling school loan debt. Without education we will stay where we are and worsen as time goes on. It is not a question of if, but when. As a recent and current member of society it is not hard to see that the issue at hand starts from a variety of very long and historically wretched and atrocious acts that have not been even remotely addressed. However, I believe that within my lifetime, if nothing else, it is our responsibility and duty as the future societies of the world, to make it our mission that we obtain a more accessible educational system in every aspect for EVERYONE. Because with a greater number of humans that are educated the greater the levels of efficiency in every aspect of day to day life become. That is the world in which I would be proud my kids could grow up in. That is a world worth fixing and advancing and it can all be obtainable with the right timing and the right push.

I end this message with two quotes that I have been thinking about often:

“Change is the end result of all true learning.”Leo Buscaglia

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”Malcolm X
